Nissan's Leaf EV and Quick-Charging Stations

Government ratings, official US EPA ratings at that, recently stated that 2012 models of the Nissan Leaf have a combined "MPG" rating of 73 miles city/ highway. Coming to dealerships in 36 different states, the 2012 all-electric Leaf from Nissan is now easy to come by in the U.S. But the same isn't true for nations across the EU.

In Europe, Nissan's Leaf EV's are still relatively new but Nissan has a plan to help the European nations adopt the product quicker. Nissan will be giving away 400 quick-charger, recharging devices which will be delivered to EV charging stations across the EU. Quick-charger charging stations allow EV batteries to recharge from zero to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes. Driver's of the Leaf won't receive a full charge at the quick-charger stations but the energy derived from the chargers will take about the same time as it would to fill up the car with gas.

"With a significant number of (quick chargers) available across Europe, EV owners will be able to recharge quickly no matter where they go. We believe this is essential for the mass adoption of EVs," Pierre Loing, VP of Nissan's product planning.1
