In order to do right by the environment and in turn citizens, Mayor Bloomberg of New York recently made a respected decision to provide a pure-EV operated cab system in NY by 2012. With the traditional yellow-clad Crown Vic cabs on their way out, people in New York are looking excitedly towards the future. And what better a vehicle of choice when thinking of the future than the Nissan LEAF EV, providing a prosperous future for both the environment and citizens of New York.
The program will begin with a pilot which will collect feedback from both drivers and passengers and depending on what they say, could evolve into a fleet of new Nissan LEAFS taxiing New York Residents all over town. But before Nissan and NYC move to the final stages details still need to be covered such as which type of charging station to used for the pilot and whether or not the EV's will have any distance or duty restrictions.
Japanese Automaker Nissan, and residents of NY, are hoping that this could be another trend dictated by New York in which many metropolitans will adopt.
